"We are inspired by animals, by nature, by everyday life, by the good and the bad, and by contradictions. We like to be on the border of beautiful and ugly, old and new. That's what inspires us: the contradictions in life." -Nynke Tynagel

Studio Job was founded in 1998 by Job Smeets, who was joined in 2000 by Nynke Tynagel. As husband and wife design-duo the graduates of Design Academy Eindhoven are known for their decorative arts, re-imagined for a contemporary age, and produced more in keeping with traditional, than industrial methods. Their mainly one-off or limited edition works, created with opulence and irony, are often described as walking a fine line between art and design. A term, “neo-gothic”  is often used to describe their style, but Smeets says, “Unlike most, we are probably not coming from Modernism. Studio Job’s contribution is that we have rediscovered a lost path. Consciously and carefully, we are positioning decorative arts in the twenty-first century.”

The work of Studio Job can be seen in over 40 museums and in collaboration with like-minded brands across the world, including several rug designs for Nodus. In 2009, Studio Job Gallery was opened in Antwerp as a curatorial exhibition space for contemporary art and design. And more recently, in 2012, they designed the elaborate Studio Job Lounge inside the Groninger Museum in the Netherlands.
